You Are What You Eat

I am fascinated by how far removed we have become concerning the basics of our health. As far back as 400 BC, Hippocrates, the father of medicine, stated, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Quite basically because you are what you eat! Food is information. Food talks, so to speak, with your cells. Your cells drive your health, energy and overall well-being.
To give you an example, we are entering the cold and flu season. The nutrients your body needs to help build a strong immune system include vitamin A, vitamin E, zinc, folic acid, vitamin B-6, riboflavin, magnesium, selenium, and vitamin C. Start increasing consumption of sweet potatoes, broccoli, nuts, seeds, eggs, beans, avocados, whole grains, leafy greens, tomatoes, and brussels sprouts to support your mitochondria.
Mitochondria are tiny organelles in cells that power biochemical processes. They break down food molecules to feed cellular heath and energy or cellular death. To draw an analogy, if your cells were cars, mitochondria are the engines. The fuel you give your car matters. The fuel you give your cells matters. I wholly support the good, better, best mindset around food consumption. Choose the best available option for your body each and every time you eat. Our modern doctors take an oath to do no harm. The food industry, however, does not!
Everything you choose to eat either supports your health or supports disease. Everything you choose to eat is responsible for your health both now and in the future. Everything you feed your mind, body, and spirit is responsible for how well your inner dragonfly thrives.
